One of the key distinctions between vegetarians and vegans is that vegetarians may ingest animal by-products such as eggs or milk despite not eating meat or flesh from animals or fish. In Thailand, catering to vegetarians is easier than catering to vegans, therefore most restaurants on the island offer vegetarian options, or any dish can be requested without meat. However, the components could still include items like eggs, making it non-vegan. As a result, we'll concentrate on vegan restaurants in this article.

Being Vegan

Veganism is a conscientious way of living that aims to avoid all forms of animal abuse and brutality as much as possible. This includes the exploitation of food as well as all other uses.
As a result, a vegan diet excludes not only animal flesh but also things like eggs and milk.
Vegans argue that livestock should be free from human use, whether for food, clothing, study, or amusement. As a result, they strive to eliminate all by-products of animals, regardless of how they are reared or housed. Vegans, in brief, refuse to eat or use anything that has been derived from an animal in any form.

Vegan Lifestyle

Veganism is more often than not a way of life than a diet. Vegans argue that rather than being "apex predators," we should coexist with animals. Instead of controlling animals, we can assist them in living their lives as organically as possible.
Veganism necessitates a strict dietary regimen. Vegans do not eat chicken, eggs, milk products, or any other livestock by-products, including bee honey.
Animals are employed in a variety of consumer goods, from soaps and cosmetics to clothing. To begin with, vegans use synthetic textiles rather than wool from sheep, llamas, alpacas, and other animals.
It's all about being mindful, just like living a vegan diet is all about being intentional. When ingesting something, a vegan must assess whether it has had any negative impact on animals.

Vegan Thai Food

Tom Hed Yum

It's a spicy, fragrant stew with lemongrass, Thai basil, and other delicacies. Hed refers to mushrooms, thus this edition should be free of chicken.

Plain rice or khaw (fried rice) (khaw pad)

Be sure to say “mangsawirat pak pak” which means vegetables.

Rice with sticky mango

The sticky rice is served with pieces of fresh mango and is fried in soft coconut milk.

Deep-fried tofu

Tofu cubes are presented in a crispy, salty crust with a fluffy centre, with quick-fried garlic, onion, and chilli garnish.

Vegan Food on Koh Tao

Gecko Republic Jungle Cafe

The first pure vegan restaurant on Koh Tao, delivering healthful plant-based recipes that are a blend of European and Thai cookery, using local and organic ingredients. Breakfast items include smoothie bowls and coconut French toast with glazed bananas and toasted nuts, which are available all day. Upstairs is an eco-friendly hostel. On the main route connecting Mae Haad and Chalok.

Orchid Spa

A quiet vegan place. Beautiful Thai food, much of it emulating traditional Thai non-vegan food using tofu, soy and mushrooms with very friendly owners and lovely staff. Attached to a spa.

Vegan Island

There is a menu that is both western and Thai. Fresh foods are served, and there are many healthy options available, such as kombucha and shakes/smoothies made with fresh fruits. Previously, it was a delicious plant-based restaurant called Delish.

The Factory Cafe

(Vegetarian with Good Vegan Options)
Vegan pancakes, nutritious smoothies, and freshly brewed coffee are served at this vegetarian wholefoods cafe.

VegetaBowl

(Vegetarian with Good Vegan Options)
While the menu is initially vegan, dairy cheese is available as an option. This western-style restaurant, located across from Sairee 7/11, serves healthy bowls, shakes, and soft drinks created in-house.
