Leo Beer is continuing in its quest to show you some of the island’s special places, this time we went along to 4U Restaurant and Bar on the magical Soi Krung Thai street in Thong Sala.

We sat down with owner Fredo for a cold drink and to find out the story of 4U…

Salut Fredo, so what is your Koh Phangan story?
I came five years ago for a holiday after I had sold my business in France. I stayed for one year and decided not to go back.

What made you want to stay?
This island, it is magic for me.

And what is the concept behind 4U?
It’s easy, the name itself, everything is for you. It is all very comfortable and nice.

Is that because you love people?
Yes of course, I have a nice bar, nice staff and so automatically I have good customers.

You will be celebrating 4U’s fourth birthday on July 18th, tell us about this…
We will have a big party with many friends and two special djs, everyone is welcome!

The bar is very lovely…
Yes it is round so that if you come alone, you are actually not alone! We also have rooms on the second floor for the guest house.

So you designed all of this yourself, where does your inspiration come from?
Absolutely, the inspiration comes from my heart.

When I was young I went to art school and found that I liked making decoration.

Every year I change everything, I have just knocked down a wall to make it bigger and created the dj booth and dancefloor.

Tell us about your food…
We make French food, easy but good, the same you would make at home.. We have our famous speciality burger, 100% beef, it’s ‘f*****g’ big.

We also make sweet crepes, a traditional recipe from my Grandmother.

This street is lovely, did you choose this location on purpose?
I chose the location as it is the centre of Thong Sala and can be busy for my rooms also. It is good as there are many shops and there is a good energy on this street.

My bar is a meeting place for big hearts.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?
We have a party every Tuesday and Friday and for high season I would like to do something every day. Not a big party but a dj or live music, something not too loud but you can have a good atmosphere, drink and listen to some music.

And what do you do when you have free time?
The best place for me is Haad Yao East, Lost Paradise, the energy there is super strong.
