Owner of ‘Dreams Secrets’a new lingerie shop in Thong Sala first came to the island last year for vacation.
Back in Belgium where Mehdi is from he already had a lingerie and underwear company and he didn’t find anything similar here so he decided to set up business on Koh Phangan with the aim to ‘get the tourists here dressed sexier’!
So Mehdi, why the interest in lingerie?
I already had similar businesses in Belgium and Switzerland but originally the idea came eight years ago when I was a doorman on clubs in Belgium. I frequently had contact with strippers and gogo dancers so I decided to start this business with lingerie.
What kind of products do you sell?
Bikinis, sexy dresses, night dresses, sexy tops and underwear. For the moment I buy the products in, this is short term as I am also busy creating my own brand and collection that will be produced in Thailand as I want to promote local work.
Everything in the shop is very hard to find everywhere else and I get only good quality. For example, the night dresses can be very thin but I tested them out, I had to pull on them thirty times before they broke!
What uniqueness can Dreams Secrets bring to Phangan?
It makes people beautiful! It could give more animation for parties, not only for tourists. Also if people are staying in in the evening at a hotel it will bring more fun, some kind of pleasure. If you look nice then it’s a good feeling!
Tell us about the show you’re having at Phanganist Hostel in February….
My idea is to start slowly with the music warming up and then to start the fashion show.
I’d also like to do some kind of competition to choose the model who has the most applause from the audience or a jury giving points and the one who wins will receive something special like coupons or discount at the shop.
Why should people come?
Because we will offer a nice atmosphere here at Phanganist with good music and a dj, plus it is something unusual. The show will be unique with clothing you don't see it every day.
What do you enjoy about the island in your free time?
I have no free time! Ha-ha, but I love sunset on the beach with my two dogs.
And leave us with your life philosophy…
I try to do my best to make people happy, to do better and then I feel good as well. If I make people happy it makes me feel better too, if people are sad then I feel sad too.
Keep an eye on our events listings for the announcement of this unique event happening at Phanganist this coming February!
