The Thailand Tourism Authority (TAT) is pleased to announce that two of Thailand's charming destinations have been listed among the "2020 Sustainable Top 100 Destinations": Chiang Khan in Loei and Nan Old City in Nan.
TAT Governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn said, "Being listed in the top 100 sustainable destinations is a testament to local communities, visitors, and everyone involved in both Chiang Khan and Nan Old City's tireless effort to ensure sustainable tourism activities."
This recognition will also serve as a motivation for both destinations to continue to adhere to their sustainable tourism development principles.
In Northeastern Thailand, Chiang Khan is a relaxed and lovely town on the Thai bank of the Mekong.
With its main Chai Khong Road riverside lined with teakwood hotels built in the Indochinese style, it maintains an old-world feeling. Visitors are recommended to visit Lao-style temples during the day when the town seems to rest, such as Wat Si Khun Mueang, which was built during the reign of Rama III and has some lovely murals
In the evenings, when a famous night market is held with the regular crafts and souvenirs on display, things liven up on Chai Khong Road.
Up in the eastern part region of northern Thailand in the Nan River valley, Nan Old City dates back to the height of the 14th century the Kingdom of Lanna.
The best way to see the places with tickets sold at the Tourist Information Centre across from Wat Phumin is to take a tram tour. Another such 14 temples as well as historical sites are on the guided tour.
