Foreigners who have already charged B1,900 and have been given a 30-day stay extension from Sept 27 under the previous 'visa amnesty' will be authorized to linger in Thailand at no additional cost until Nov 30.
Deputy Commissioner Maj Gen Pornchai Kuntee of the Immigration Bureau revealed the news at a press conference at the Bangkok headquarters of the Immigration Bureau today (Sept 29).
"There are two classes of foreigners right now in Thailand: citizens who have already registered for extensions until Sept 26, and those who have not," Maj Gen Pornchai said.
"The second group of people would be allowed by today's Cabinet to remain until Oct 31," he stated.
"But the Immigration Bureau will prolong their stay until Nov 30 for the first batch," Maj Gen Pornchai said.
"However, these foreigners who have already accepted a 30-day stay extension from Sept. 27 must introduce themselves to their nearest Immigration Office in order to have the proper stamp on their passports," he said.
After that, foreigners will request for 60 days at a time to prolong their stay, ”Maj Gen Pornchai said.
Not much documentation [for the 60-day extension] would be required. Letters from embassies may not be appropriate,' he said.
The news follows the declaration yesterday (Sept 28) by the Centre for COVID-19 Condition Administration (CCSA) in Bangkok that the government had extended the visa amnesty for foreigners stuck in Thailand to Oct 31.
