Thailand was ready to welcome the first 41 out of 150 Special Tourist Visa (STV) registered Chinese visitors expected to arrive at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday 20 October.
On October 19, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Yuthasak Supasorn, told reporters that the first group of Chinese tourists will depart Shanghai, China, and arrive in Bangkok on Tuesday at approximately 5:00 PM.
They are required to have Covid-19 test screenings using the RT-PCS method once all tourists have arrived in the Kingdom and are required to register for a Covid-19 monitoring application before being transferred for 14 days to the ASQ / ALSQ quarantine accommodation. They
will be regularly tested in quarantine and go through a vigorous process.
According to the governor, the beach areas in Bangkok are the main tourist attraction, and they will stay in the Kingdom for an initial period of 30 days. Under the first group of tourists, the remaining 100 Chinese visitors will follow the first batch to Bangkok from Guangzhou later this week.
Yuthasak said: "The registration of a Covid tracking application such as 'Moh-Chana' is also mandatory for all visitors, apart from the Covid screening tests under national health initiatives."
"If the first batch of Chinese tourists is considered as potentially successful, TAT might suggest to the CCSA and the government the concept of increasing the number of tourists."
Yuthasak also stated that the continuing protests this week would not affect the limited amount of tourists as they are expected to travel outside Bangkok after the quarantine.
