No foreigners, say 95% to prevent 2nd Covid-19 pandemic spread

A survey by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University finds that an overwhelming majority of Thais — 94.51 percent — claim foreigners should be banned from entering the country to avoid a second wave of Covid-19 spreading.

The poll was conducted online on July 14-18. One thousand four hundred fifty-nine people across the country evaluated their reactions to the cases of an Egyptian soldier and a Sudanese girl.

How they felt after finding of these two cases?

  • 52.23 percent of respondents said they were extremely worried. 39.68 percent said they were reasonably worried.
  • 6.58 percent said they were slightly concerned.
  • 1.51 percent said they were not worried at all.

 

List "five items" that might scare them if there were a fresh outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, with each respondent being permitted to provide more than one response?

  • 95.89 percent mentioned the degree to which the disease spreads.
  • 94.45 percent unemployment.
  • 92.05 percent company shutdown.
  • 84.17 percent education for their children.
  • 84.17 percent another lockout note.
  • 73.82 percent, believed the chance was high for Thailand to announce a second lockdown, while 26.18 percent said it was unlikely.

Recommend measures to deter a fresh outbreak of the pandemic?

  • 94.51 percent said visitors would certainly not be permitted to reach Thailand.
  • 86.41 percent said the inspection and quarantine procedure for people coming from overseas needed to be rigorous.
  • 83.80 percent said citizens had to wear face masks when outside and always wash their hands.
  • 81.40 percent said citizens had to be given corrective treatment;

What would the government do to alleviate people's fears regarding the novel coronavirus?

  • 47.38 percent said the inspection and quarantine procedure needed to be rendered more strict, including loopholes for "privileged" people.
  • 33.43 percent said penalties would be placed for anyone who breaches the prohibition for outsiders entering Thailand.
  • 23.20 percent said the government had to fix COVID related issues rapidly.
