According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), tourism revenue in September will increase by 20 per cent compared to the same month last year, after the government approved September 4 and 7 as compensation holidays for Songkran Festival.
Songkran holidays were cancelled in April due to the Covid-19 outbreak.TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said the long weekend this September would encourage people to exercise their right under the 'Rao Tiew Duay Kan' (We Travel Together) tourism stimulus campaign.
September is normally a month without any national holidays and schools across the country are already open.
Numerous operators of hotels and airlines will be invited to have their booths there with promotions. According to the recent meeting between the TAT and private entrepreneurs in the tourism sector, the companies have requested that the government assist them in reducing their major costs; they are seeking the suspension of debt payments to be expanded and have requested that the Social Security Office take responsibility for this.
The entrepreneurs demanded that the government support their financial liquidity, and hasten tourists' return to visit the safe and sealed areas of the country, which were strictly controlled.
