Tourism Authority of Thailand says that to revitalize tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has relaxed the criteria for issuing visas to foreigners.
Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT executive director for tourism products, said that the tourism situation in Thailand is recovering.
It is noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had relaxed tourist visa criteria to allow foreigners to come and stay in Thailand for up to 60 days and, in the case of an extension, up to 90 days.
The applicant has to come from a low-risk country for a special tourist visa (STV), while the target countries, mostly in Europe and Scandinavia, are categorized as medium-risk countries.
So, when applying for a tourist visa, Thai consulates have relaxed the regulations for applicants from these countries.
However, there are several requirements.
The applicant has been required to have savings of at least THB 500,000, a medical certificate, to take the COVID-19 test 72 hours before travel, to acquire USD 100,000 in insurance coverage, and to have out-patient insurance that covers THB 40,000. A quarantine of 14 days on arrival is still mandatory.
The ministry had issued entry certificates to 1,465 foreigners as of November 5. Retirement visas, special tourism visas, and privileged entry visas are the top three types of visas granted.
