The Ministry of Defense will host two days of drills in vulnerable provinces starting Monday to prepare for a possible resurgence of Covid-19.
Bangkok, Chon Buri, Samut Sakhon, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Tak, Sa Kaeo, Ranong, Surat Thani, Krabi and Phuket were all classified as vulnerable due to the high entrance and movement rates of migrant labour.
The drill, which is in preparation for the imminent re-entry of workers and tourists, will be conducted by teleconference, with ministry officials in each of these provinces addressing Covid-19 response units, according to the Ministry of Defence.
The Covid-19 prevention drill will focus on coordination among responsible agencies including the immigration police, the Ministry of Public Health, local government, as well as the Ministries of Labor, Foreign Affairs, Interior and Education.
In addition, the drill will recheck and test the readiness in these areas of IT systems, public relations channels, workflow and action plans, and a Key Performance Index for Covid-19 preventive measures.
The Ministry of Defense will host a dry run after the two-day drill to train officials and staff at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) on Covid-19 prevention for the provinces of Bangkok, Chon Buri, Samut Sakhon, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Tak, Sa Kaeo, Ranong, Surat Thani, Krabi and Phuket. It is unclear how many people are involved, or how the arrival of these groups will be simulated.
