Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, in his role as Head of the CCSA, tasked the National Security Council of Thailand (NSC) to examine whether the new curfew from 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. may be reduced to midnight to 4 a.m. during the third process of lockout constraints reduction, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngarm announced on Saturday.
He clarified that the renewal of the state of emergency is a separate issue than the curfew, but that there should be no obligation to have a curfew if the state of emergency were removed.
Dr. Wissanu also pointed out that, when schools were re-claimed by the Cabinet early in March for protection of children in the COVID-19 pandemic, the closing of schools and postponement of the academic year until 1 July is a different condition of urgency. That is because distance learning via mobile phone or TV is expected to start on June 1st, although that is not recent.
Dr Wissanu stated out that it would not be necessary to teach all subjects or for students in distance learning courses across all stages of education.
The Deputy Prime Minister said, citing the case of the Chulabhorn School and other foreign organizations, that schools fit for reopening before 1 July can do so, on condition that they have permission from health officials.
