Three of Thailand's most populous ex-pat areas are seeing a huge rise in new infections, partly from pre-Songkran traffic. The Songkran holidays are now officially over (though many people will start things off and making a weekend Songkran extension), and the government expects an increase in the number of cases reported in popular holiday destinations.
Since April 1, the Chon Buri Public Health Office has said a total of 910 infections. In the last 24 hours, they've103 new cases. The Bang Lamung district has the newest cases, with 47 in Pattaya City, 12 in Siracha, and 8 in Chon Buri City.
Meanwhile, 142 infections have been recorded on Phuket, with the Governor insisting that there will be no need for a lockdown. Here's a breakdown of the areas and the number of infections that have been recorded so far (below).
The Phuket Infectious Disease Control Committee will not implement an official lockdown, but will “strictly increase the intensity of public health measures to counter the spread of Covid-19,” according to Governor Narong.
“Everyone should put on a face mask, keep their distance from others, wash their hands frequently, and install the Mor Chana app (free on the App Store and Google Play Store).”
In the past 24 hours, there have been 100 new Covid-19 infections announced in Prachuap Khiri Khan, with 75 cases from Hua Hin. This takes the total in the province from April 1 to 625. Hua Hin accounts for nearly 90% of the district’s total cases.
