Officials said three more people tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday, though concerns are being asked about the efficacy of an application for tracking the virus
Two co-workers in Bangkok and a Phuket saleswoman were identified as the new patients, said Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesperson for the COVID-19 Situation Administration Center, although the lingering coronavirus threat did not deter a citywide rush to shopping malls over the weekend.
On Friday, a 29-year-old woman, a 55-year-old male, colleagues at the same office in Bangkok, and a 27-year-old Phuket saleswoman were tested positive. This brings the total infected tally to 3,031.
One additional citizen healed from the outbreak, taking the recovery number to 2,857. The death count is now at 56.
Does Device Work to Track?
The first day malls were allowed to reopen Sunday and the curfew pushed back from 10 pm until 11 pm. Visitors must sign their details when accessing shops and shopping centres. Customers at shops have to queue up to scan a QR code, then sign in to offer their phone number. With any shop they visit this cycle has to be replicated.
They 're also encouraged to register on the way out again.
Officials said customers must provide their information so that in the event of an outbreak, they can be traced.
As of Monday, a total of 2,002,897 people have reportedly registered with the app.
But a Kapook news website CEO said people can fill in bogus phone numbers without any consequences, raising concerns that the application won't work as it was intended.
Poramate Minsiri, who posted online about his findings, urged the government to rely on LINE or Facebook logins, rather than requesting phone numbers.
