Three out of four new Covid-19 infections reported in Chiang Mai's northern province are in patients who frequented Bangkok's nightlife venues. Four new infections have been confirmed by the communicable disease committee, which has introduced restrictions to prevent further spread.

According to a report by Nation Thailand, the first patient went to a nightclub in Bangkok's Ratchadaphisek area on March 30 before flying to Chiang Mai the next day. He flew on Thai Vietjet flight VZ2104, which departed at 5.30 p.m. On April 4, he tested positive for the virus. The second patient is a friend of his who went to the Bangkok entertainment venue with him then returned to Chiang Mai in a private car. On April 4, he, too, tested positive.

The third case involves a man who was in the car with patient number two. On April 5, he returned to his Chiang Mai home with his girlfriend and tested positive.

Two other people who were in the same group as the three patients and went to the same Bangkok entertainment venues tested negative, according to local health officials.

The fourth case involves a Chinese patient who traveled to  Nonthaburi. in the central province of ฺ for seven days. On April 1, he flew from Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport to Chiang Mai on Thai AirAsia flight FD411, which departed at 6.20 p.m.

On April 1, the man and his wife went to a BBQ restaurant in Chang Phueak sub-district. He had lunch at a restaurant near the airport the next day, followed by dinner at Thip Net Market that evening. The man returned to Thip Net Market, as well as Central Festival Chiang Mai and Kadmanee Market, on April 3. On April 4, he went to a private hospital to request a Covid-19 test after dining at the restaurant near the airport. The next day, his test result was positive.

For the now being, health officials say the virus has not spread further in Chiang Mai, but bars and restaurants which serve alcohol have been ordered to close by 11 p.m. from now until April 30.
