The Ministry of Public Health coordinated the "Frontline Stay" initiative in partnership with Airbnb to provide housing during the COVID-19 crisis for frontline personnel, medical staff and village health volunteers. The project started its pilot phase in Bangkok and 13 provinces with the cooperation of over 800 locations across the world.
The Frontline Stay initiative seeks to ensure medical workers and community health volunteers have a secure place to live close to their job, minimize the challenges of commuting to work during the curfew time, and relieve fear that they may transmit the virus to family members. The system now contains more than 800 rooms, 200 of which provide free lodging, and the remainder pays special rates.
The Frontline Stay project's hotels and apartments are situated in 13 provinces including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket, Chonburi, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Khon Kaen, Phitsanulok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Krabi, Lampang, Uttaradit and Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. Most are in district Mueang. The hotels and services in Bangkok are located in Ratchathewi district, district Phayathai, district Khan Na Yao, and district Bang Rak.
Health staff and volunteers will book their own lodging via the Airbnb App. The duration of stay depends on the specifications of Airbnb, from five days up to thirty days.
During the stay, hygiene steps have to be strictly followed. The property owners are required to close their property for three days after providing service to frontline workers for disinfection and cleanup.
Frontline staff that wants to enter this service will have an Airbnb account and may access the Frontline Stay.
