As a lot of the world snuggle up in blankets and light their fires ready for the crispy cold days and nights that Winter brings. ready for a Festive month of December with celebrations of Christmas and New Years Eve, here on Koh Phangan we start to be able to leave the raincoats at home, enjoying the sunshine and getting ready for our own celebrations with the coming of the annual ‘High Season’.
For the month of December you have the ‘build up’, just like you would in Europe with the build-up to Christmas, but here, you know that high season lasts longer than one day.
People start coming back, the ones who go elsewhere for the Summer and return when it gets cold where they’ve been. Everyone is so fresh, new and exciting with new tales to tell, everyone loves everyone.
For one family, in particular, December really is the highlight. For the Trance family, The Experience Festival held annually on Koh Tao over New Year means the coming together of friends, a meeting point after a Summer of travelling to various festivals throughout Europe and afar. And so this means the coming of the ‘connecting’ parties, the warm-ups and the warm downs, expect some good Trance parties during this time.
The weather usually calms down a bit with the rains getting less and less, more predictable sunshine and blue sky days compared to having to just grab them whilst you can during November’s monsoon season. However, if the last two years are anything to go by the rain has continued into December so we’re not going to promise anything!
Accommodation starts to get booked up quickly and prices are high as Koh Phangan starts to begin its Peak Season but once everyone is settled in then the fun ensues.
The biggest party week of the year will start on December 20th with the Full Moon warm-up of Waterfall Party followed by Jungle Experience on the 21st. December 22nd is Full Moon Party day!!
You will also be able to have a similar party experience on the Full Moon beach of Haad Rin on December 24th (Christmas Eve) and for Christmas Day of December 25th!! This island will not stop rolling out the celebrations during this time.
Many restaurants and resorts will be doing more traditional Christmas celebrations if you favour that more than partying so don’t worry there is something for everyone, young, old, families, couples and the rest.
December 29th is the Half Moon Party then it’s New Year's Eve on December 31st!!! The biggest party of the year on Haad Rin Beach!! All around these dates there will also be other smaller parties so it offers you a lot of choices if the full moon party vibe is not your thing.
So whatever you decide to get involved with this December here on Koh Phangan we’re sure it will be amazing!
