Welcome to Koh Phangan! Whether you’re alone or in a group you’re guaranteed to have an unforgettable time here on the island. So how can you make your stay here even better? You can be a good samaritan and help out other travellers and tourists, that’s how!
You may even find yourself in a situation where you need help at some point so you would want the same to happen to you, there’s a good few fair things you can do…
Be kind and keep an eye on people's safety, this could be people in your hostel or resort or people on the street. If someone looks lost then try to help point them in the right direction, they could get nervous wandering around trying to find the place where they stay so you could really help if you know something they don’t.
Try to include the shy and quieter ones, you may of all been separate and met at the hostel and gone on to form a big group to go out and see the island with so make sure you ask the people who may be too shy to ask themselves, not everyone is confident to get involved or reach out so do it for them. You don’t need to make a big fuss about it and they may even be happy on their own but at least you would of asked.
Share your information with them on good places to go, things to see and experience and give advice if you have some, info from fellow travellers which is verbally passed on can be the most valuable. You can learn about good budget accomodation, how to get a good taxi, what to avoid, places to eat and hidden gems which are not in the guide books if you are all sharing information.
Other things you can share are clothes, books and other belongings, or not necessarily share but swap anyway. If something no longer serves you, it may serve someone else, you probably won’t want to read the same book twice whilst you’re away so these are great items which you can swap!
You will most likely not have a huge variety of clothes with you because it’s not really practical whilst travelling so this is a great thing to swap so you can update some outfits on nights out, or even just borrow things and make sure you lend out in return!
Be patient, if you lose someone at a party make sure you wait. No one wants to get lost and then if everyone leaves it will only make matters worse, you would want someone at the other end if you got lost also. Try to be patient in general and be courteous to others, there may be language barriers so try to help the out if you can and understand that it’s everyone’s holiday and people go at different paces.
So try to help out other tourists here, what goes around comes around and we promise it will only make you feel even better during your stay here on Koh Phangan!
