So you wanna join the flip flop gang and immerse yourself in island culture eh?! Well, you have come to exactly the right place when it comes to Koh Phangan!

Most people tend to chose flip flops as their everyday footwear choice and there are many reasons why;
Comfort
Ease of getting on and off
Cheap
Cool
Etc, etc…
There are some things to consider however when it comes to flip flopping on Koh Phangan, this is a party island and whilst people are in the throes of hedonism, up there in the sky on a high, they will slip off their flip flops to dance out into space and then the flip flops will vanish into thin air by the time you have danced back down to earth.
This is a common occurrence, do not be alarmed!

Most commonly, as a lot of flip flops are very similar, someone will of taken yours by accident. Chances of you getting them back are slim and then this falls into a vicious circle of you then taking another person's and so on… So bear in mind you may not want to wear your ‘expensive’ flip flops out when there is a high chance of you losing them, such as, at a party. Best to stick to a cheap pair that you don’t mind losing.
We are going to let you in to THE SECRET of not losing your flip flops at the Full Moon Party... Put one of the thongs around your ankle, as demonstrated by our wonderful model CK;

Apparently flip flops have been around for centuries with evidence from cave paintings and the ancient egyptians so it’s no wonder that flip flops are still popular all over the world. In actual fact, we are quite privileged here as in colder countries people CANNOT WAIT to wear their flip flops when the sun eventually shines and we get to wear them every single hour of every day if we wish.
If you are new to flip flopping then fear not! We are here to help you! We’re kind of split 50/50 here about wearing flip flops but the ones that do have a great knowledge to share. Take Big Boss Sharon;
“Here on the island it’s a functional way because we don’t go into houses with shoes on so we need something easy to put on and off so why not?! Also your feet are not tight in some sweaty shoe”.

The first thing you must learn to tackle is how to keep them on your feet using just the piece of rubber between your toe. This may come easy for some but if not then just try to practice walking around in them for a while and you will soon work out the best way for you in no time!
They may slip off from time to time as you're walking down the market or street or beach but don’t worry, just pop back and slap it back on your foot and no one will notice!

Once you get the hang of flip flopping it will become second nature and you’ll think nothing of slipping them off and on at every moment necessary, bearing in mind that this is often as you have to take your shoes off in Thai homes, Temples and some businesses.
However, it is not recommended to wear flip flops if you’re going on a hike or long enduring walk of some kind, this is when you may need some ‘proper shoes’.

If you chose not to wear flip flops then we won’t judge you, in fact we admire you as some of us here just can’t do the flip flop thing as well!
Good luck on your flip flopping adventure, you’re in the best place in the world for it, our magical island of Koh Phangan.
