Dj Chupis is all One Love

Dj Chupis runs the popular One Love Bar, he talks to Phanganist about his Vinyl scratching and more!

What is your koh Phangan story?
I come to Koh Phangan in 2013 in search of a place to create One Love Bar. A year before that we started to create a community of One Love People - artistic, bright, free and positive people to combine our talents. Together we make interesting events in One Love Bar and some other places such as Moon House Bar, Joon Bar, Relaxes View Point and a couple more bars mostly with Reggae or Drum and Bass parties.

Where on Koh Phangan or other places have you played and how was it?
Before Phangan I was living in Pattaya so I was playing at Hard Rock hotel Foam Parties, Motoroom Club Asia, Play Club, Flexxx Club, Reggae Cave and Sopar Reggae bar. Then I got some gigs in Bangkok city at The Overstay, Dream Nightclub and Glow Nightclub. It was good experience every time.

What do you think about Koh Phangan music and party scene?
For me Koh Phangan is the best place for party people all over Thailand. Besides big events there are lot of small parties with a more kindly atmosphere and more underground music. There are a lot of really nice musicians and Dj’s. As a dj and promoter I’m very happy with the audience of Phangan. They are attracted by music and the atmosphere instead of sitting on I-phones the whole night. I don’t need to play mainstream music to make them dance, a lot of these people prefer to hear new wicked tracks not mainstream which they’ve heard hundreds of times.

What do you feel you brought to the Phangan scene?
Most parts of the events & parties on Phangan are based around different kinds of Techno & House music so my mission is to bring people other great genres of music such as Reggae, Funk, Trip-Hop, Hip-Hop, Breaks & Drum and Bass. Each of them have exclusive energy inside and different moods. Also I’m a old school lover and I prefer to play with real Vinyl and add some Scratching. It takes much more time, money and energy to carry but every Vinyl record I have is awesome so this is also my advantage.

How do you spend you free time on the island?
I like this place for easy inspiration. Its amazing nature and people that give me more ideas and power to make something interesting. I like to spin poi, practice with Djembe drum or Scratching vinyl, searching for new music and of course spend time with my girl and friends.

How did you get to where you are today?
By trying to do only what I want to do and  not what I don’t want to do (thanks KaZantip Republic for that)
I just started to follow my dream, think positive, work a lot and listen to what smart people are saying.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I don’t plan for such big periods. In my student times I was dreaming that I’ll get my bar on the beach and spin Vinyl for people when I become nearly 40. But I got it much earlier. So who knows?

What is your life philosophy?
My philosophy is easy - One Love. I always try to be useful for people, show them something new, inspire them & bring at least good emotions. I know that if we come together as one we can have much more positivity and dream realizations
