Many people speak of the two faces of Koh Phangan.
The people feel that Phangan island has been split into two parts, where one part is the party side and the other part the spiritual side.
All the parties being on the Haad Rin and Baan Tai side and all the healing, yoga and spiritual dealings on the Sri Thanu and Haad Yao side.

This is an understandable theory, but not really true.
Koh Phangan has been known as the Full Moon Island for some time now, this has been for around 20 years.
Along with the Full Moon parties came the Trance Family. Running from Goa and India’s latest visa rules that had them leave the country for six months after a certain amount of time staying there.
The Goa family began to invade Koh Phangan and all the while they and the Phanganers began to develop the Full Moon Party from a drum circle on the beach into a full-blown Trance party!

When you have ‘refugees’ from Goa, you can be sure to find Trance somewhere around, and when you have Tranceyou also have Yoga. Those two things are strongly connected.
They are connected because they are two branches of the same three.
When you meditate you want to achieve a Trance and when you dance to Trance you want to achieve a meditative state.
That is why, the two faces of Phangan are really not the two faces of Phangan but in reality one face presenting different aspects of the same theme!
You might say that the whole tendency came from Goa and India. It was there that the Trance began and it was there the Yoga Ashrams for the first time became really known to the rest of the world.

We on Phangan are, so to speak, the leftovers from The Hippie movement from the 60’s, who moved to India and ‘escaped’ to Phangan when they could not return to Goa because of the visa rules.
Yoga and Trance are deeply connected and both root in the idea of looking through the veil of the world and evolving as a human being. Both believing in energies and souls, the power of the mind and the manifesting powers of one’s thoughts. They also both belong to the old Eastern Philosophies, which can be described as a metaphor of the “Goose in a bottle.”
The saying goes; If you were to put an egg from a goose into a bottle, how will the full grown goose get out of the bottle without breaking either the bottle or itself?
The answer is; The Goose has to realize there never was a bottle!

Both Yoga and Trance people are trying to realize this ;) !! And of course In the East where the mentality has always been strongest for these teachings.
The keywords for both is LOVE & LIGHT - PEACE & HARMONY – WE ARE ALL ONE & WE ARE ALL THE SAME ..

So in reality, it is not different minded people who comes here and do either one or the other. It is people who all belong to the same "family of like minded" who realizes the connection between the two and come here to find both Peace and Harmony with Love and Light discovering that We are all One and All the Same!!
