Tourism association of Koh Phangan will start a new capaign for safe bike riding between December 28th to January 3rd.
If you are renting a motorbike please read and follow these important rules for your health and safety
1. Check the bike carefully before renting it - breaks, mirrors, tyres etc.
2. Rent a motorbike only if you are an experienced driver.
3. Make sure you know your route and the kind of road you will be driving, for example steep hills and dirt roads.
4. Drive slow and do not overtake. The traffic during this week is very busy and there can be many young and inexperienced drivers.
5. Cover up properly, do not drive wearing only swimwear or exposed clothing.
6. Always wear a helmet.
7. Do not drive after drinking alcohol.
8. There will be many police checkpoints on the roads during the campaign between December 28th and January 3rd, always be polite and co-operate with the authorities.
9. The roads to Haad Rin and Thong Nai Pan are steep, please be careful when riding them.
10. Do not drive if you are not familiar with the roads, especially during night time.
11. During the night or when going to a party, it is better to use a taxi.
12. Do not take a child under the age of 5 on a bike.
13. Be extra quiet and drive slowly when driving around temples and schools.
