Originally from Canada, Jocelyn came to Koh Phangan two years ago exactly in august. She was on a three month adventure with Therese, from Ringside. They had travelled around Thailand and came to Phangan to see the Full Moon party. They both wanted to leave immediately, fair to say they didn’t like it. So Jocelyn and Therese left, flew to Chang Mai where they sat on the kerb for all of five minutes, looked at each other and said “we have to go back”. So they went straight back to the airport and got on a flight and Jocelyn has now been here for two years. “We left so quickly, we felt we weren’t done with Ko Phangan and wanted to explore it more”.
Hey Jocelyn so what were you doing before Phangan?
I was a design manager for a luxury gifting site in london, I was living there for six years and did work for asos, Topshop, Selfridges, French Connection, and Vice uk.
What artwork have you done on the island?
I have done work for Maya and Loilay, All Yoga Thailand, Niras bakery, Orion Healing Centre, Arati Healing centre where I worked with Chris Wright and Sandcastle.
What sort of work have you been doing?
Print design, digital design, illustrations, wall murals and sign writing.
What inspires your work?
The amazing artists on this island who have managed to make a life for themselves here in Koh Phangan, plus the freedom and lifestyle of living on a tropical island. My recent yoga teacher training and interest in Buddhism inspires me as well.
What are your current and future projects?
Still working with Arati Healing Centre, more murals and sign work. I want to be doing more hands on work rather than on a computer.
What do you do in your free time and where are your favourite places?
I do Yoga, I have just finished my teacher training. living island life, the occasional party, Backyard is one of the best. My favourite places are kind of funny because they are just little places I like to go, anywhere out of Haad Rin as I live there so it’s nice to escape.
What is your life philosophy?
Not easy to follow but definitely the best way to live your life:
“Every morning think as you wake up:
I am alive,
I have a precious human life,
I am not going to waste it.
I am going to use all of my energies to develop myself,To expand my heart out to others,To achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.I am not going to get angry,Or think badly about others.I am going to benefit others as much as I can.”
