'When graffiti - be that a tag, a throw-up, or a piece, is done with style, wit, and grace, it is one of the most progressive and important art movements in the world'. - Thomas Olesen
It was a glorious day, in fact it was HOT! Scrap that, it was bloody SCORCHING! It felt like a different world near the wall that these painters had found.
When you come from a background of 'graffiti'/street art or whatever you want to call it nowadays, you sometimes miss the freedom and energy that comes from having a quick jam on a wall with your fellow painting chums.
The gang found a spot which had already been painted a few times, passing through a field, past the enormous bull that gave them 'the eye' a few times and through the long tropical grass to said wall.
It was not as easy as you think, well the painting bit was but it turns out that this field was home to yes, a large bull, but more dangorously, thousands of big red ants!
They crawled in their shoes, up their legs and to places that no one should ever venture to bite these artistic humans. Oh well, you have to put up with these kinds of risks out in the 'wilderness'.
It was an unplanned meet on this occasion, a lot of the time artists will decide a colour theme or style or more importantly what they're actually going to paint beforehand, but on this occasion it was just a chance to all get out together and paint.
Although they knew each other, the beauty of painting with other people is that you can learn new skills, pick up tricks from others that you have never worked out and just use other peoples styles as inspiration for your own development.
It's also a good chance to catch up on what everyone's been up to in their 'normal' lives and to take the mick out of each other when relevant.
Everyone was dripping in sweat afterwards, as said previously, IT WAS HOT.
But no one would change this for the world would they? What a privelidge to be able to leave your mark somewhere like Koh Phangan...
In England after a paint you would most likely to the pub and in Spain you may all go for some cocktails and tapas.
So same same but different, the gang went to watch sunset near the pier with some milk and biscuits (seriously!).
Koh Phangan is a beautifully creative island, keep your eye out for all of which it offers...
