Here to play on Phangan !!
After this he is going to Australia on tour and will be playing live!!
- and then onto DJ at a couple of Snowboarding festivals in Europe and then carrying onto the Miami Winter Music conference at the end of march to play live for another project I have with Radioslave.
How are you?
Busily balancing studio and beach life, including touring and making new music as always ))
I am from Brighton in the UK and from a fishing family so to see fishing community still raw and untouched by commercialism made me feel instantly at home.
What is your Koh Phangan story?
I arrived late to the scene March 2011 and I have been back every European winter, each year the trip gets longer and longer and becomes harder to leave.
My first time on the Lomprayah as Phangan's mountains reared up in the distance I felt a real passion and obsessively explored every nook and cranny including driving up to Chaloklum where I properly fell in love with the place.
What is your connection to the scene here?
I always go and suss out the parties that are happening, last year I was invited to play at the full moon party and it was quite an experience but I longed form something a bit more underground so I contacted the jungle experience and this year we made it happen.
It was a highlight show for me! I hope to be back in March to play again!
I put a lot of time into the set and it connected..
I did a reccy last month to see what the party was like and caught my good friend Marco Loco playing.
After that I had a month to plan my action.
What an amazing vibe and of course the location is stunning, fair to say I took the non existent roof off..
What do you feel you can bring to the Phangan scene?
I am a pretty eclectic artist having produced many hundreds of records over my career but with my own sound stamped on them.
I bring vibe & humour to the table, I’m not afraid to play any music but I have a source of credible deep tech house, 80% or which I play in my set are my own productions so its unique.
I have the experience to know how to play to crowd but not compromise on my sound.
Do you have other plans to play on Phangan?
I hope to be back at the Jungle next month, I might play at KU club if we can make the dates work. Although I’m happy to do the bigger events as I like big systems and noisy crowds :)
What is the best thing you ever been involved with or done?
I produced an album for David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, that was pretty good fun having those two sat behind you, but I’ve also Dj'd at Mardi Gras, Rio Carnival, been a resident on the Space Terrace in Ibiza and played over 1000 shows internationally as well as supported the Chemical brothers on tours.
I am most proud of my Cagedbaby albums, I have a 3rd album coming out this year on Fatboy slims label Skint records out of my hometown Brighton.
What do you listen to yourself when you want to unwind?
Ah, I love ambient music and jazz.. and sets by tastemakers like Andrew Weatheral and DJ harvey but preferably I listen to music pre 1981, psychedelic rock is always close to my heart and a bit of Italy disco to brighten the mood.
Two lone swordsmen, Aphrodites child , Yellow Magic Orchestra, Focus, Mahavishnu Orchestra etc….. still finding new music every day.
I love a good record hunt and still am an avid vinyl collector.
Do you find Koh Phangan to be a good place for your music?
There’s a lot of talent over here!
I am often invited into other peoples studios tucked away on the island, I also have a portable set up, it took me a while to get my head round writing on the road but it is the only way for a seasoned traveller to create while on the move, its one thing to DJ but its a whole different dimension when you can also write and record and then perform your music that night.
I am doing a lot of vocal collaborations while here, have just recorded for Pleasurekraft and German Brigante amongst others and I made these tracks while on the beachfront, but not at sunrise or sunset as the cicadas bleed into the mix.
Where is your favourite place here?
Haad Khom up past Chaloklum, but shhhhh don't tell everybody…. its a slice of paradise.
What are your next projects?
I am going to Australia to tour and play live after this trip then onto DJ at a couple of Snowboarding festivals in Europe and then carrying onto the Miami Winter Music conference at the end of march to play live for another project I have with Radioslave.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Doing the same thing but being a bit more picky about accommodation and hot showers, I can't see anything else I’d like to do.
I have tried but I always come back to music and beach life, I’m a professional at it now I don't know any different.
How did you get to where you are today? What is your life philosophy?
Look after the Planet, all the creatures are sacred.
Is there something special you would like to communicate to the people regarding your music or projects?
Thanks guys!
This is my new Cagedbaby single on Skint records, be great of you can share it.
It came out this week and is getting great support!
Thank you!
Thomas xx
