On Thailand New Year's Day, the Thais will pray to the Buddha, clean temples and houses, offer alms to the monks and sprinkle scented water on elders as a mark of respect. The pouring of water symbolises the cleansing of the spirit, mind and body.
That summarizes up to Water Fights using buckets, water guns, water pipes and for the extra luxury ones, the water with ice cube throwers!!
Prickly Heat Powder and every kind of water throwing invention are on the streets!
The water is also supposed to wash away bad luck - so consider yourself blessed if you get drenched! Luckily and Happily Songkran falls during the hottest time of the year and cold water sprinkles are a welcome relief.
