Sarah Monument returning to Phangan for another wicked beats roundabout!
Thank you for your time Sarah!
We are very happy to share your story here!!
Welcome back!!
How did you get to this island?
What is your Koh Phangan story?
- I first travelled to Koh Phangan 18 years ago as a tourist to visit the Full Moon Party
– a total different experience than when I arrived last year (Feb 2013) as a break beat DJ to support Radio 1 drum and bass DJ Friction at Rhythm and Sands!
I met many promoters on this journey, and I returned again in Sept 2013 to play breaks and electro at Sramanora Waterfall Party and to play jungle breaks at the Sunrise DnB stage at the Full Moon - both of which were unreal experiences!
I’m looking forward to returning in May (3rd May – 18th May) and am finalising details of my gigs throughout that time.
- She will also be at the Full Moon Party on the Sunrise Stage Full Moon Night May 15th!
Miss Monument at the Sramanora Waterfall Party on her last visit;
I’m known for playing mainly breakbeat and I enjoy the fact my beats are well accepted here even though breaks still seem to be in the minority on this island – the energy on the dancefloor throughout my sets here is unreal, and I keep on getting asked back so I must be doing something right!
I have Djed all around the world – from Miami to China, and I kick started this year by flying to Colombia just after NYE to DJ in the jungle for a week long party which was pretty life changing!
I also spent last year twice in Thailand with my music, and I hope to continue returning and pushing my beats straight out of London and into Asia.
I play regularly with Stanton Warriors, Deekline, The Freestylers – and this past year also Djed for Paul Oakenfold at a private party which is something I shall never forget!
My sets are always versatile, bass driven beats with an eclectic injection of all things funk, ska, dub, jungle, bouncy and booty.
Basically I play anything that makes me want to dance while making sure everyone else is also rocking it out on the dance floor!
What I like most about Koh Phangan is the instant party vibe you sense on the island – but without this impacting on the serene and balanced lifestyle that the Thai people promote.
I’m a keen practitioner of yoga and on my last visit I spent just as much time studying yoga at the ORION yoga retreat, as I did partying on a beach or in a jungle!
Its very important for me to keep this balance in my life.
I will be flying to Thailand the day after Breakspoll International Breakbeat awards, where I am hoping to be nominated for Best Breakthrough DJ – which would be an amazing way to kick start my 2 week Thailand tour!
Voting opens April 1st so please go to this website on that date and nominate:
Miss Monument for Best Breakthrough DJ to show your support! .
While in Thailand, outside of DJing, I will be working remotely on the many different production projects I am currently involved in back in London, which includes a live dance act - Continuum.
This year I will also be launching Elements Bound record label and promoting my new business as a music process consultant –alongside that I hope to continue travelling the world with my DJing, and producing beats from the beach :-)
I look forward to seeing you in May!
So do we Miss Monument!!
Good Luck on all your projects and see you back on Phangan in May !!
