Sunday morning 8 am, Club „Maria am Ostbahnhof“ - Berlin.
Red lights are shining into happily wiggling faces, which embody their joy with screaming noises. And a head over heels smiling mid-sized guy is raising his hands and moves the bass regulator pleasurably in.
It’s Sebastian Kremer, a Neukölln native – as there are not many in the Berlin techno scene.
Above all art galleries, cultural activities and bars are dominating these days in this trendy district. But Neukölln isn’t only about that: cheap rents attracting more and more electronic musicians and clubs to there, as it’s seen like a place for creativity and a melting pot for techno.
His interest for electronic music was forced by parents, who took him pickaback to the Loveparade in the tender age of 7 years.
The heroes of this era were DJs like Woody, Paul Kalkbrenner and Haito, who influenced him to get pulled to the turntables some years later, after spending uncountable nights and days in Berlins clubs.
The affinity for percussive sounds can be lead back on his perennial experiences by playing drums. But the styles vary from drifty to psychedelicly melodic, which reminds to his former desire for the sounds of Border Community.
Luckily it’s far from “typical Berlin”, what is played by so many others. Through his sets he draws a line and keeps an eye on the dancefloor. Asking him about his definition of his style, he will answer “Neukölln Ghetto-Techno” with a big grin. Smiling as always – that’s real Kremer-like. A passionated DJ who loves this craft. Respecting other artists is one of the conditions he follows, and the collective experience of emotions and joy distinguishes in the club as a dancefloor mentor.
Different resident jobs put him on the map of renowned DJs of the city, such as Soundsurfers, Beatfreak or Spreekader.
Later on he worked with “Ein Herz für Hänger” (MIKZ, Magdalena) and Jaxsons “It Is What It Is” or Foreplay” in Tresor Club, which made him play all over Berlins club landscape, as well he got member of the artist collective Ostklang. Even Europe-wide he could prove his talents in cities like London, Vienna, Basel, Frankfurt or Munich.
The creative musical environment has led him finally to process his own loops and ideas.
After 3 years of analogue and digital use of devices and programs, the time is ripe to release some results. First efforts with Paul Schulleri followed by the cooperation with Dominik Vaillant for the label Analogue Audio and its sub-label Audiopony.
Sebastian Kremer is above all human in its purest senses, even he seems to be a little bit superhero with a healthy portion of megalomania.
That’s what a DJ and producer needs for jubilance, turbulence and cheerfulness, and for taking over the world!
