Miyagi's "Forever Album Tour"
Part Koh Phangan
What means "Forever"? Does it mean no changes? Does it mean to stop or is it the way to continue without confusions? "Forever" means to focus on the right things, to focus on love and the right moments, long lasting emotions and positive memories. A bunch of warm and good feelings, mixed up with straight rhythms and melodies without date of expiry - that means "Forever" in the language of Miyagi.
Miyagi aka Robert Wagenknecht is not only a dj and producer, but also label owner and booking agent for Hamburgs biggest techno club “Docks”. His musical style is influenced by deep & tech house with slightly hypnotic techno sounds.
He bought his first vinyl’s and turntables when he moved to Hamburg (Germany). He didn‘t expect anything, he just wanted to play his favourite tunes for some friends and little party’s in his living room. After a while, he started to play the first club gigs. First only in Hamburg and later all around Germany. A few years later he also started producing his own music. He founded a small record label with his friend Thomas called “Rennbahn Records“ where artists such as Rodriguez Jr., Sascha Braemer and Matthias Meyer have made tracks. At the same time, they started to promote their own events. In keeping with the motto “sometimes we make music, sometimes we make party”, they also present several well-known events in Hamburg regularly, e.g. the “WEIRD Festival”. Well-known artists such as Fairmont, Sasse, Oliver Schories,The Glitz, Jaxson & David Keno or Sascha Braemer & Dan Caster made remixes for him. In 2014 Miyagi released his first album "Forever"! He’s on his record release “Forever” Tour at the moment bringing amazing music to the dance scene around the globe and Koh Phangan had the chance to experience this.
He came to Phangan, because of Harry, a friend of his, who‘s releasing one of the upcoming Rennbahn releases. In January Harry messaged him on Facebook and asked him if he wanted to come to Thailand and play some gigs. Some German friends had also been telling him about Phangan so he went on and booked his flights a few weeks later. Of course, he didn‘t regret doing that!

A lot of his friends are DJs, Promoters, label owner and ravers. His job as booking agent for one of Hamburgs largest technoclub is also a daily connection to the scene. So he's surrounded by electronic music all the time. We had the chance to ask him a few other things about his life like:
...favorite place on the island.
"I really like the beaches on the east side, but also driving the bike through and around the island. I enjoy relaxing under palms or by the water. The restaurants, (like Fishermans, Beachlounge etc.) where friends invited me to, are also very nice."
...what he feels he brings to the Phangan party scene.
"I feel I let them be a part of my way to, together, create a special mood during my dj sets. It‘s like a journey, where I am connected with the people on the dance floor. I‘m always trying to play music, where people can dance, dream or go crazy. But for sure, it depends on the crowd."

...what his future plans on Koh Phangan are.
"Yes! I will come back next January for some more days. I want to see how high season is like. Can‘t wait for it! The 7 days I stayed on the island, were just amazing! The people I met, were so nice and it feels like a “big together” on Phangan."
...what his favorite gig on the island was.
"I had 2 gigs here at Loi Lay Boat Party on June 15 and before that on June 11 at The Jungle Experience. Both were amazing. The Jungle Experience Festival was huge. Playing in front of 3000-4000 people is an ecstasies. Also the decoration, lights, laser and fire - just awesome! And never before have I played in a head of a tiger. Haha. Loi Lay is one of the sweetest venues I played at, it's a big raft floating next to the beach. You can feel the waves under your feet which creates a very special atmosphere."

...where his best gig in the world was.
"There were a lot of cool places I’ve played at during the last years. It‘s difficult to name only one favourite. For example, special gigs were in Chicago, Hamburg, Cologne, London and of course Phangan. I‘m also really looking forward to play at one of Europe’s biggest festival this year (Sonne, Mond, Sterne) and at one of the most inspiring festivals in the world (Burning Man). I‘m so excited about it!"
...what his Inspirations are.
"Love, music, people. Quite simple. There is nothing special that inspires me. Sometimes it‘s just a little moment full of senses. A few seconds are enough to become creative and powerful for a long time."

...about the future and his philosophy.
"I‘m not thinking too much about the future right now. I live for the moment. I also try to do things I love. If I don‘t like something, I try to change it."

"After all, my little Thailand Tour is nearly over!" he says, "Thank you Harry, Darragh, Georgia and Aaron for being such great hosts! I definitely had a great time! See you all in January! I also found a little video of my track "Don't Bother Me" playing live at the jungle! Amazing!"
