Dj from New York, here in March to Play for us at the Loi Lay Floating Boat and the Famous Full Moon Party!
Phanganist went for a small chat with the NY Dude to hear his perspectives on Phangan Parties!
Thank you Alex, for making this interview! We look forward to have you back here for a second round!
What is your Koh Phangan story?
I came to the Island (along with two friends who live in Asia and are Southeast Asia veterans) and fell in love with the place as soon as I touched land.
I pushed back my deperature flight twice (both times to take gigs, and I was looking for any excuse not to leave and this played into that well), overstayed my Thailand visa by a large and expensive amount. But couldn't be happier about it : )
What is your connection to the Parties here?
I played the Loi Lay Floating boat party twice, March 20 & 27 and a daytime Full Moon party as well.
You played in Loi Lay on Darraghs Tech House Wednesdays – how did you like that?
It was awesome. Great venue, great vibe, great people. Darragh and Rob are the best hosts, the party is based around deep, sexy, funky house beats which is what I'm all about, I had a blast.
What do you feel you can bring to the Phangan scene?
My unique sound and style of music, my skills on the decks and I give a very energetic performance when I play, I think Ko Phangan can appreciate that more than any other place out there.
Do you have other plans to play on Phangan?
I would love it. But I don't know when I'll be back. I'm currently in Bali now playing, heading to Tokyo after that, then San Fran and the West Coast of the states. And then back to good old NY after that.
According to Alex the best thing he ever did was his residency at Cielo in NY;
My residency at Cielo in NY has been unreal to be honest with you. Its one of the best night clubs in the world, every night the vibe in that room is just excellent. Its all about the music and everyone is dancing, all the time.
Of course getting to play overseas in Asia, Africa, South America, etc is always a big treat.
For Phangan he brought a lot of sexy and beautiful House music, some pumping Tech House tunes and a couple of old gems just as icing on the cake ; )
Alex himself, is a hardcore Radiohead addict!
Do you find Koh Phangan to be a good place for your music?
Yes, 100%. There is a super vibrant Underground House music scene in Koh Phangan.
Its such a nice change from so many places you visit that just play commercial top 40 house music.
Any place like this is going to really get what my music is about and what I try to do with my live sets.
Where is your favourite place here?
Ahhhhh, not a fair question I'm not answering that one! Lol, seriously though there are so many to choose from.
The Loi Lay Party, the Jungle Experience, Backyard (!), Eden Garden, Guy's Bar, The Half Moon party, the list goes on and on.
I fell in love with the scene in Ko Phangan while I was there. Really.
What do you hope to bring with you back from Phangan?
A smile from ear to ear, an overstayed visa and a great tan.
What are your next projects?
I have a few releases coming out on Deep house and Tech House labels later on this year.
I'll keep you guys posted for sure.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Touring in even a bigger and better way. And spending more time in Asia : )
How did you get so far? What is your life philosophy?
A great ear for music, hard work and always trying to be positive and give back to others in the scene.
All the Best of Luck on your Further Doings from Phanganist!
We hope we get a chance to hear you again on this island!
