Dennis’ career as a DJ started at the turn of the millennium. Greatly influenced by garage, electro clash and classic techno his musical taste was formed at a young age. As years progressed his interest shifted to funk and soulful house which became also obvious in his musical choices on stage. Currently his style can best described as a righteous mix between UK garage, funky techno and nu disco music.
After moving to Thailand in 2010 his star rose quickly with permanent DJ residencies at Motoroom Club Asia, Planet Earth Beach Club, Ocean Beach Club and the Unique Pool Parties.
As performing at clubs and events wasn’t enough Dennis started to organize his own events and musical concepts as “Vintage Bangkok” and “Discodiet” at places like Sofitel, Marshmallow Bar and DIB Skybar to name a few.
Old school is a term that suits Dennis well as he is one of those few DJs who still spins vinyl whenever he gets a chance. In his record bag you’ll always find a nice extra set of drum n bass, break beats, jungle and even reggae classics. As a guest DJ he can nowadays be found on a regular basis at Oskar Bistro, Koi Fashion Lounge and Tapas in Bangkok.
Other highlights in the last few year include performances at well know clubs all around Thailand: Bed Supperclub, Moon House Beach Bar Koh Phangan, Glow Club, The Pier Club, Velvet, Narz, Thai Lounge, Welfare, Red Square, Demo, Club Culture, One Love Bar, Levels/ V-Club, Viva8, Pullman Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, Octave Rooftop Lounge.
What is your Koh Phangan story?
My story just started. I have been on Phangan twice and for every time I love this island more and more. The happy people makes a good party. I felt it when I played and when I visited events around. Koh Phangan is giving me inspiration to create and energy for work as well. It is a kind of therapy session.
On this visit as you know I am going to play at Amnesia Club, I heard it is a great place with very cool underground vibes but my first time on Phangan was last year, such a great experience, still remember. Never seen so many crazy party people in one place )) The compilation between Thai life and European night culture. Unique and unforgettable. I expected a chill vacation with one party point, same like on Koh Chang, but locals told me about many so many other interesting events and secret places. Unfortunately when I realized this it was too late and I had to go back home.
I played at Moon House Beach Bar in Haad Rin. It was an event with vinyl records only. We played tech house, techno and broken beats with my friend Dj Chupis. The next day we joined the party at One Love Bar on Hin Kong Beach. I am planning to visit Koh Phangan every month during a Full Moon or Half Moon period.
You are playing in Bangkok normally?
Basically I stay and work in Bangkok. I have a monthly and weekly residency in Ocean Beach Club, Marshmallow Bar, Oskar Bistro, Sofitel Sukhumvit, Koi. Plus guest gigs in Tapas, Narz, Levels Club, Ku De Ta, Viva 8 (Chatuchak) etc...
In December – February, the high season, I will work in Phuket, Pattaya and on Samui as well.
Bangkok is always packed and the city never sleeps. Unfortunately we can only party untill 2 am now. Hope it will be temporary. At this moment we are witnessing changes of night life. I can not say it is for the better or worse. During few years so many new venues opened, so many closed. And two big projects more are coming. Lets see.
How is the Bangkok scene compared to the European scene?.
My Europe is only Ukraine and Russia. Can not tell you anything, but I’m sure there is no reason to compare. Environment + Mentality. There are so many franchise openings and so many promoters and artists coming to Thailand. Everybody are adapting to the situation and starting to do different things. Some calls it magic, I call it “mai pan rai” ;)
What music did you bring in your record bag for Phangan?
My favourite ones only. I bring some Garage, funky techno and tech house. On this island music sounds very differently, I have no idea why. It is a miracle !
What do you listen to yourself when you want to unwind?
I listen to disco, funk, soul and breakbeat chill out. Oldies from 70th 80th and 90th.
What are your next projects?
I am going to be a part of an entertainment management of two venues in Bangkok and Pattaya city in the end of this year. Always want to do something useful in terms of underground nightlife of Thailand.
Your Hopes & Dreams?
I want to travel around the world. And create and create and create…Hope I reach my dreams during next few years.
Your life philosophy?
Good people always find each other. It takes time but in the end you are happy.
