Want to try awesome Thai food but don’t know where to go?
Well, I got just the place for you….head over to the Tong Sala Nightmarket. Located right in the heart of downtown Ko Phangan , next to the 7eleven.
There you will find an abundance of yummy Thai treats…
But wait a minute, there’s sooooooo much to chose from. Where to start? Eeeeeeeeek!!!
Don’t worry, Eva Wellness - The Nutrition Detective is here to help. So I did my research, diligently inspecting all the food stalls and trying the awesome food. And for three weeks in a row I keep coming back to the same place, not only because the food is amazing, but because there is such a large selection in just one place. What’s more, is that everything there is healthy, MSG free, budget-friendly and nutritionist approved (as long as you skip the white rice).
How to find this Thai Goodness?
Once at the entrance of the night market, walk straight through the second lane of food stalls and it’s about half-way down to your left. Take a look at my photos and you will be sure to recognize it. This food stall doesn’t have a name, but is easy to find as it’s one of the largest food stalls and has it’s own silver table behind the stall where you can sit and enjoy your meal. But wait!!! There’s more…you get FREE unlimited veggies at the table, the Thai lady chef brings the food to you on a proper plate (no plastic or Styrofoam, yay!) and she heats up the food for you if you ask. Oh, and did I mention the price??? Only 50 baht per dish!!! Wooohooo!
Nutrition Tip
If you want to loose weight, gain muscle and NOT be in a “food coma” after eating, I always advise my clients to skip the rice and just go for protein with veggies; make sure you munch on some raw veggies along with your cooked meal to increase your nutrient and enzyme count. Rule of thumb is that half of your plate should consist of veggies the rest of protein and healthy fats, so go ahead and sprinkle your meal with some sunflower and pumpkin seeds, or my personal favorite: ground flax seeds (these are packed with fiber and great source of heart-healthy omega 3 fats). Enjoy!
One last thing
My favorite part about this food stall is that just about everything here is healthy and has both vegetarian and meat-eater friendly options. My personal favorite is the Bamboo Chicken Yellow Curry, but watch out, it’s spicyyyyy.
