Mandala (Sanskrit Maṇḍala, 'circle') is a powerful geometric pattern created in many different ways. Mandala is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness - the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds.
Describing both material and non-material realities, the mandala appears in all aspects of life: the celestial circles we call earth, sun, and moon, as well as conceptual circles of friends, family, and community.
My first impression for Mandala was back then when i was living in India. In south India there is a long-standing folk art known as Rangoli Mandala, in which patterns are created on the floor using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, and more.
In south India people believe Mandala is a secret way to express the feeling of a person who draws it. Creating a group mandala is a unifying experience in which people can express themselves individually within a unified structure.
How to draw your first Mandala. There are many basic elements that you can use and combine. For example:
1. Dots;
2. Lines - horizontal, vertical or oblique;
3. Swirls and Spirals;
4. Geometric shapes - triangle, square or circle
5. Drops or petals;
6. Bumps;
7. Hearts;
8. Arrows e.t.c.
Create your own elements! Start with these simple shapes and let your imagination do the rest. Add something more and little by little your Mandala will become more and more complex.
if you have an hour free today, Mandala drawing is one of the best way to meditate and express your artistic side. Be creative!!
